On my most recent visit to London, I decided to fulfil another dream: taking the train to Oxford. After all, it is only about an hour on the Great Western Railway from London Paddington Station. Why I had never done it before, despite visiting London for the sixth time, I honestly do not know. Somehow there was always something else I wanted to see more. After watching My Oxford Year, however, I simply had to go and see the must sees of Oxford myself. And goodness… the wait was more than worth it.

Are there any must sees in Oxford at all?
“Oxford? Surely you can only study there.” That was always my impression of the city. And if you type Oxford into Google, you will indeed mostly see university buildings, admittedly constructed from the most beautiful materials and in stunning architectural styles. Yet I can now confidently say that Oxford has far more to offer than its famous university. That said, I would still strongly recommend booking a tour of Christ Church and the Bodleian Library, in addition to visiting some of the free colleges. Fans of Harry Potter film series will certainly recognise many scenes from the films, which is hardly surprising as quite a few were filmed in Oxford.

However, there is more to the city than its university heritage. You can visit Oxford Castle, for instance, or take a walk along the River Thames or through the surrounding green spaces. Alternatively, step inside the famous pub The Eagle and Child, where in the past you might have run into authors J. R. R. Tolkien or C. S. Lewis. Oxford therefore offers far more sights than just an extensive campus. And I will gladly list some of the most enjoyable ones for you.
